Why join the Makos Swim Team for Summer 2026?

The swim team provides fitness and exercise in a fun atmosphere. It encourages good sportsmanship, a strong work ethic and neighborhood spirit. In addition to practices and meets, there may also be social events to foster fun and friendship.

New for Summer 2026 . . . League division reorganization! Now all meets will be within in a 15 minute drive and with teams of similar size!

Need more information?

Who can swim?  Any Marvin Creek resident in good standing between the ages of 4 - 18 who can swim unassisted across one length of the pool is welcome to join the team. Swimmers are grouped by age: 4-6 (Shrimpers), 8 and under, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14, and 15-18. Boys and girls compete separately.

When are practices?  Practices are every day, Monday-Friday in the afternoon while school is in session and in the mornings when school is out for the summer. Practices are at the main Marvin Creek Pool. There are no practices on swim meet days. Refer to the schedule for the times. Attendance at swim practice is strongly encouraged to learn and improve stoke technique, increase endurance, and improve swimmer times. Shrimper parents or guardians must be present at ALL practices and meets.

When are swim meets? Meets are on Monday and Thursday evenings during the month of June. There may be up to 7 swim meets, where half are home meets at our Marvin Creek Pool and half are away meets at a Division 5 team’s pool in the local South Charlotte area. Meets may start at 5pm or 6pm, with starting 45 minutes before and the meets should not last more than 2 ½ hours. Attendance at swim meets is critical for relay participation and team performance.

When is registration? Registration will be in April 2026.

Parent volunteers are needed at all swim meets!  Parents will be asked to sign up to volunteer to help at all meets via a Signup Genius. Volunteering is fun and it is a great way to get involved and meet your neighbors. Most importantly, we need “All Hands on Deck” for meets to run smoothly and efficiently. Thank you in advance!
