Practice Policies

PRACTICE GUIDELINES

  • Swimmers should bring their goggles, towel, sunscreen and water bottle to all practices. Please make sure to put your name on these items so they do not “swim” away.
  • Swimmers should be at practice 10 minutes before their session is to begin.
  • Please reinforce the importance of attentiveness and respect to coaches’ instruction. If your child is at practice, they are there to practice. If they are not practicing, they will be asked to leave the pool area.
  • Practice will be held daily unless there is thunder and/or lightning. It will be posted on the Makos Facebook page if practice is cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • Parents are asked to refrain from interrupting the coaches or swimmers during practice. Practice times are vital to your child and the team’s success. You may contact a coach by email if you would like to discuss a specific issue. The coach will contact you as soon as possible.

SAFTY FIRST Safety will be with Swim Team’s first priority.

  • While lifeguards and coaches will be monitoring the swim team, it is required for Shrimpers (swimmers 6 and under) and recommended for all other swimmers that a parent is present for all swim practices and meets. It is certainly a benefit to have additional eyes watching the swimmers at all times.
  • While we want all swimmers to have fun and enjoy this neighborhood activity, misbehaving will not be tolerated. If for any reason a swimmer is misbehaving or causing a safety concern, they may be removed from the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Please review the pool guidelines with your kids, including but not limited to no running and no diving. Swimmers will only be allowed to dive when directed to by the coaches.

ILLNESS RESTRICTIONS The Makos Swim Team will follow the illness and Covid 19 guidelines and restrictions provided by our pool management company and our Marvin Creek HOA Board. Here are a few important requirements to note:

  • If your child has any symptoms of a cold or virus, including but not limited to a fever, runny nose, cough or diarrhea they are absolutely not allowed to attend practice or a meet until they are symptom free for 24 hours. If a lifeguard, coach or member of the Swim Team Committee feels for any reason that a swimmer is not feeling well or has one of these symptoms they will be removed from the pool area.

Weather Note

Practice and swim meets take place in the rain. However, any sound of thunder or instance of lightning clears the pool until at least 30 minutes have passed without a recurrence. The safety of all swimmers is of the greatest importance. Decisions to close the pool are made by the lifeguards; please follow their instructions. If there is stormy weather in the area we will be monitoring it closely and post notice on our Facebook page if practice is canceled.

Also, please download the Swimtopia app and allow for push notification as this may be used to notify you via text message of cancelations or changes to practices/meets.
